Elite 24 - 2009 Wrap

July 3, 2009
Apex Soccer's inaugural Elite 24 camp has come to a close. It was described as both "intense" and "demanding" by the players, who got to train like professionals for three weeks.

When developing the Elite 24 camp, Apex Soccer set out to create a training program unlike any other in the United States. Behind the credentials and expertise of former professional players and coaches, Elite 24 was born.

The camp was designed and conducted to mirror the preseason training of professional soccer clubs overseas.

Players were put through a variety of drills and game situations to help develop different aspects of their game. Many of these training exercises were brand new to the players, but are the same concepts and exercises utilized by foreign clubs such as Dinamo Tblissi in Georgia, Chernomoretts-Odessa in Ukraine, and Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

The players arrived daily at 9 AM for the first of two practices. At the conclusion of the practice, players were taken to Impact Gym for lunch and a classroom session, which was focused on developing players into students of the game. From there, the players hit the field for the second practice of the day.

"I think the kids responded very well to their first experience being placed in a professional environment," said Director Rob Andrews. "The experience gained from all aspects of the camp will provide the players an excellent foundation going into their club seasons."
